Reinder Jan ELEMA had two children who emigrated to South Africa. The children were Michiel Tonnes , and Alke HAAN (ne้ ELEMA).

On arrival in South Africa in 1926/1927, Michiel was sent to the Educational College in Oudshoorn, to be trained as a teacher in the South African school system, from where he was transferred to Kakamas to practice as a Teacher. In Kakamas he met his wife, Martha Sofia Olivier, and their first son, Reinder was born.

From there the young family relocated to Upington, where their second son, Nico, and daughter, Hannetjie was born. In 1948/1949, the family again relocated to Twee Riviere in the Langkloof area, where Michiel practiced as headmaster of the local school, until retirement. His descendants mainly settled near Cape Town (in the Western Cape Province).

Alke HAAN (ne้ ELEMA) settled in Witbank, Mpumalanga Province (the old Transvaal Province), from where her descendants mainly settled and in Pretoria (in the Gauteng Province).

On this site, you will find information on their descendents, and is the most comprehensive list of the Elema-family living in South Africa.
